Asheville, North Carolina, is a treasure trove of experiences, a place where every turn offers a new adventure. Our recent trip to this vibrant city was nothing short of magical, and I’m here to take you on a whirlwind tour of our escapades!
Artistic Auras at the River Arts District
Our journey began in the heart of Asheville’s creativity, the River Arts District (RAD). Imagine a canvas of buildings splashed with vibrant murals, studios brimming with eclectic art, and the air tinged with the scent of oil paints
and fresh clay. It’s a place where your spirit soars, and your inner artist comes alive. While there, we stumbled into one of the local art galleries before taking a long walk along the beautiful trail. This area offers a unique blend of art, history and culture set against the backdrop of the scenic French Broad River.
Cheers to Beers at Hi-Wire Brewing
Next, we raised our glasses at Hi-Wire Brewing, where the hops are as lively as the circus-themed decor. We were able to sample a few of the local craft favorites from a diverse selection of beers, including IPAs, sour adjacent beers, dark beers and more. Each sip of their craft beer was a performance in itself, a blend of tradition and innovation that danced on our taste buds.
E-Biking Along the French Broad
Feeling adventurous, we hopped on e-bikes and zipped along the French Broad River. With the wind in our hair and the river’s rhythm guiding us. Our e-bike tour along the French Broad River was supposed to be a simple excursion, but thanks to our trusty GPS, it turned into an epic saga of getting utterly lost. The local beach that was “just around the bend” became our own "Lost City of Atlantis". But as we pedaled through the lush greenery and laughed at our misfortune, we realized that sometimes, the best memories are the ones you didn’t plan for. We discovered hidden nooks and breathtaking views that only Asheville can offer.
Culinary Delights at Wicked Weed Brewing Funkatorium
Our appetites led us to the Wicked Weed Brewing Funkatorium, a haven for foodies and beer enthusiasts alike. The fusion of flavors in their dishes, paired with their signature sour beers, was a symphony of taste that left us craving more. The Asheville Hot Chicken Sandwich and the light and airy Roman-Style pizza offered a unique twist on these classic dishes.
Coffee Connoisseur’s Dream at Vortex Doughnuts
Morning found us at Vortex Doughnuts, cradling cups of 1000 Faces Coffee, a micro-roastery based in Athens, Georgia, known for its commitment to quality, sustainability, and transparency in the coffee supply chain. While they have a variety of classic coffee drinks, the nitro cold brews were top of the list. The creamy, smooth texture is similar to a stout beer and the nitrogen infusion enhances the flavors giving it a rich and robust taste. The seasonal aroma of the brews, coupled with the sweet indulgence of artisanal doughnuts, was the perfect start to our day.
Serenity at Hot Springs Resort and Spa
A short drive took us to the tranquil Hot Springs, NC, where the Hot Springs Resort and Spa awaited. Soaking in the natural hot mineral waters, we chose the Premium experience for that extra touch of privacy and picturesque views. After our long walks through the city, this was a moment of pure bliss, a chance to unwind and let nature’s warmth embrace us. The memories we made there were unforgettable!
Rustic Charm at Iron Horse Station
Just a stone’s throw away, Iron Horse Station greeted us with its rustic charm and hearty meals. The ambiance was cozy, the food was comforting, and the staff was very friendly. This area is a landmark situated directly on the Appalachian Trail and is a charming destination and rest spot for hikers and nature lovers. We also stopped in one of the adjacent craft shops and bought some beautiful souvenirs for the family. With the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains and the French Broad River as its back drop, this place offers a warm welcome and authentic mountain town experience.
Picture-Perfect at The Bridge of Madison County
On our drive back, we stopped at The Bridge of Madison County also known as the Old Red Bridge. It was originally built in 1910 over Spring Creek and survived a devastating flood in 1916 making it one of the few bridges in western North Carolina to withstand such a natural disaster. This iconic spot was a photographer’s dream, with its historic beauty and the serene backdrop of nature’s finest work.
Asheville, with its artistic streets, frothy brews, electrifying bike trails, gourmet bites, rejuvenating springs, and scenic wonders, is a destination that beckons the bold and the curious. So pack your bags, grab your sense of adventure, and come see for yourself why Asheville is the epitome of an unforgettable getaway!
